You Must Get Organized Searching for a full time job IS a full time job! Set Goals Find companies you want to target Companies you would feel comfortable working at Large companies that are hiring Create structure in your life Wake up at the same time every day, stick to a daily schedule Keep track of your contacts (see handout) Networking, today’s job search – who you know is more important than ever Leave the house Stay motivated Join a job club (library, employment connection

Steps to Job Search Decide on a Career Objective! Use this on Resume Decide on a focus, changing careers, going to school Keep your resume effective and up-to-date Develop a job search strategy Be patient (average 6-12 months job search) 4.4 unemployed for every 1 job opening In this recession more jobs were lost than in any other previous recession Lost jobs + changing work force due to technology, jobs have been lost and are not coming back Prepare for the interview Use this on Resume Decide on a focus, changing careers, going to school

Dealing with Rejection 40% of companies are hiring internally Be Patient Rejection is hard – YOU ARE JUST AS VALUABLE AND CAPABLE 4.4 unemployed for every 1 job opening Reasons you may not have gotten the job: They left out a detail in the job description that another candidate had Companies looking for right personality fit OR to shake things up You have no control over who else is applying

Resumes Resumes will be electronically scanned Use keywords: wordle.net List achievments and accomplishments List a few soft skills (skills everyone needs for all professions (from your grade school report card…works well with others. Ex: team working, problem solving skills, communication skills, computer skills Correct Grammar, Spelling, Punctuation!! Do not be humble! Brag!
