Web site designed for consumer health information Developed and maintained by NLM Purpose: to assist general public in locating authoritative health information without advertising or bias Site contains copyrighted & non-copyrighted material Links to other websites, but following a set of guidelines: 1. Health content reflects quality, authority & accuracy 2. Purpose is educational (no charge for most content ) 3. Availability & maintenance of web page is considered 4

MEDLINE/PubMed Professional database of biomedical literature. TARGET AUDIENCE => health professionals o Web-based, searchable database of over 20 million articles o Articles published in more than 5,000 biomedical journals o Links to full-text journal articles offered through providers o Abstract content free, but only some full-text content is free MedlinePlus A health information website for patients, families, etc. TARGET AUDIENCE => health consumers MEDLINE vs MedlinePlus 5
