Controlling Public Opinion Committee On Public opinion tries to silence dissent (opposition to the war) Espionage Act (1917): Penalized people who were spies, aided the enemy, or interfered with recruiting Sabotage & Sedition Acts (1918): Made it a crime to say, print, or write any criticism of the government
