Sample Social Studies PLs SAMPLE PERFORMANCE LEVELS
5
Ask yourself this… Am I able to consistently, completely, and accurately complete the task or apply the skill as described in the performance level? If I can, I am MEETING THE STANDARD.
6
MEETING THE STANDARD Scenario: On school nights, your bedtime is 7:30. WHOA! Too early! So you strike a bargain with your parents. IF you get up every morning on time and on your own, IF you have time to eat breakfast, and IF you are are not late to school for an entire month, they will agree to a 10:00 bedtime. It’s tough, but you do it! For thirty days, you meet every requirement as laid out in the agreement. 10:00 bedtime here you come! This is MEETING THE STANDARD. 7
Ask yourself this… Am I inconsistent in my understanding of the concept? Am I sometimes inaccurate in applying the skill? If my answer is YES to either question, then I am PROGRESSING TOWARD MEETING THE STANDARD.
8
PROGRESSING TOWARD MEETING THE STANDARD Scenario: On the basketball court, you can dribble. You can pass. You can run a pick. But you can’t shoot a hoop. You make the team, but for now, you can’t play forward. The GOOD NEWS ~~you are on your way. With some more practice, you should achieve your goal and be a starting forward. ~This is PROGRESSING TOWARD MEETING THE STANDARD. Scenario: On the basketball court, you can dribble. You can pass. 9
Ask yourself this… Do I struggle in class or on my homework when it comes to this skill or concept? Do I have trouble explaining it to others? Do I “just not get it”? If my answer is yes, I am NOT MEETING THE STANDARD.
10
Scenario: In order to receive your weekly allowance, you have to make the bed, empty the dishwasher, and take the garbage out on a daily basis without being asked or reminded. DRATS! Your mom noticed you didn’t make your bed on Tuesday. You weren’t able to do what was expected. You don’t get your money!$! ~This is NOT MEETING THE STANDARD. Ask yourself this… Are there some concepts and skills I already know? In class or on homework, do I not only “get it,” but do I also know more than I am expected to? If my answer is yes, I am in ADVANCED ACHIEVEMENT OF THE STANDARD.
12
ADVANCED ACHIEVEMENT Scenario: It’s day one of the Tumbling Unit, and your P.E. teacher begins with the grade level standard skill of tuck and tumble. You vault onto the balance beam, pirouette, cartwheel off the end of the beam, and stick your dismount perfectly. You have shown advanced application of a grade level skill. This exceeds what is expected of students in your grade during this trimester. ~This is ADVANCED ACHIEVEMENT OF THE STANDARD. WHAT ADVANCED ACHIEVEMENT IS & WHAT IT IS NOT IT IS NOT… DOING WHAT IS EXPECTED – that’s MEETS. EASILY OBTAINED A LEVEL WHERE YOU STAY – it’s a level you visit IT IS… AN ADVANCED APPLICATION OF A STANDARD AN ABILITY TO UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPT OR APPLY THE SKILL AT A HIGHER LEVEL OR AT AN EARLIER TIME APPLYING MORE KNOWLEDGE THAN THE STANDARD EXPECTS OR GOING BEYOND THE EXPECTED
