Challenges Bring PC technology to every student over five- year period Use existing IT personnel resources Accommodate large reductions in operating budget 6
7
Current IT Infrastructure Windows 7 Enterprise deployed on over 31,000 netbooks and laptops – 1:1 computing model with a uniform vision Terminal Services (nearly 12K terminals deployed in K- 5 classrooms, grade 3 received 27 netbooks) Group Policy Management (extensively) Windows Server 2008 Office 2007 MDOP (PoC started in May 2010) Exchange 2003 will update to 2010 this year 7
8
Technology Cost-effectively support the 1:1 initiative Netbook PCs for every student Tablet PCs for every instructor Key technologies deployed for this initiative: Windows 7 Enterprise & Internet Explorer 8 Microsoft Office Standard 2007 for students, Microsoft Office Professional 2007 for teachers Remote Desktop Services (RDS) in Windows Server 2008 R2 to publish applications 8
9
Improved System Performance & Reliability Faster log-on: from >6 minutes to less than 21 seconds Better use experience for students & teachers 9
10
Simplified, Cost Effective IT Deployed 34,800 PCs in year one; ultimately will deploy over 100,000 PCs with current resources Number of PCs supported will increase 300% by end of project—managed with same number of IT staff 10
11
Enhanced Security All students run as “Standard Users” Virtualized registry, IE Protected Mode and Group Policy control ensure a stable, protected environment 11
