Specific : set one goal at a time. Stick with that goal until you decide to drop it for a new goal (hopefully because it has been achieved : ). Measurable : measurable in time and quantity TARGET SETTING: “S.M.A.R.T.”
3
“S.M.A.R.T.” Achievable : reasonable with one ’ s given strengths and abilities. Setting the goal too high makes it easy to lose motivation and write the goal off entirely.
4
“S.M.A.R.T.” Realistic : behavior that makes a positive difference in one ’ s overall performance. Fitness goals should always include the notion of a healthy mind, body and spirit.
5
“S.M.A.R.T.” Time-Related : This is the “… in two months …” part of the goal statement. By limiting the time you have to accomplish a goal you have a fixed timetable to work with and the sense of urgency that will spur you to keep on track.
