Support Sentences The essay has Support Paragraphs while the paragraph has Support Sentences. There are two kinds of support: General Support: tells the reader what area your support will be in. Specific Support: The key to good specific support is good details!

Here’s an example of a topic sentence followed by General Support and Specific Support: Topic Sentence: The move to New York has had many benefits. General Support: In New York, I have found many things to do with my time. General Support: In New York, I have found many things to do with my time. Specific Support (with details): My new interests include Thai food and modern dance. Specific Support (with details): My new interests include Thai food and modern dance.

Topic Sentence: Here are some important ways you can prepare for a marathon. General Support: Dress appropriately for the weather. Specific Example: If it’s a cool day, you might want to bring layers that you can take off.
