11 Lesson Essential Question How can music affect one’s mood?

12 Group Stories Getting Started Create a group of three – four people. One group member get a sheet of chart paper. One group member get markers. One friend get an index card and a pencil. Assign group members to be Writers 1, 2, 3, etc. Writer 1: Write the group members’ names in the top right corner of your chart paper. When all tasks are complete, put your hands on your heads.

13 Group Stories Elements of the Story Determine the setting of your story. Writer 2: Write the setting in the top left of your chart paper. Determine and describe two – four characters. Writer 2: Write the characters’ names beneath your setting in the top left corner of your chart paper. Put the marker in the center of the chart paper with the cap on. When all tasks are complete, group members face away from your chart paper.

14 Group Stories Writing Section 1 All silently listen to the first clip of music. When the music stops, discuss with your group possible actions in your story based upon the mood of the music. Writer 3: Write two to four sentences describing the action in your story. Put the marker in the center of the chart paper with the cap on. When all tasks are complete, group members hold a group high-five position.

15 Group Stories Writing Section 2 All silently listen to the second clip of music. When the music stops, discuss with your group possible actions in your story based upon the mood of the music. Writer 4: Write two to four sentences describing the action in your story. Put the marker in the center of the chart paper with the cap on. When all tasks are complete, group members stand in place.

16 Group Stories Writing Section 3 Group members sit. All silently listen to the second clip of music. When the music stops, discuss with your group possible actions in your story based upon the mood of the music. Writer 1: Write two to four sentences describing the action in your story. Put the marker in the center of the chart paper with the cap on. When all tasks are complete, each group member put a finger on his/her nose.

17 Group Stories Writing Section 4 All silently listen to the second clip of music. When the music stops, discuss with your group possible actions in your story based upon the mood of the music. Writer 2: Write two to four sentences describing the action in your story. Put the marker in the center of the chart paper with the cap on. When all tasks are complete, group members silently mimic playing your favorite instrument while sitting in place.

18 Group Stories Writing Section 5 All silently listen to the second clip of music. When the music stops, discuss with your group possible actions in your story based upon the mood of the music. Writer 3: Write two to four sentences describing the action in your story. Put the marker in the center of the chart paper with the cap on. When all tasks are complete, silently stand and do your favorite dance in place.

19 Group Stories 2-Minute Polish Read through your story with your group. Make any quick edits. When all tasks are complete, group members should silently roll their heads and stretch in place.

20 Group Stories Share Decide who will read your story to the class. When your reader is identified, the reader should come to the front of the room with your group’s chart paper.

21 Summary Discuss with your group any similarities and differences you noticed among the different stories. One member of the group raise your hand to share an interesting similarity or difference your group noticed.

When complete, One group member turn in the index card and pencil One group member turn in the chart paper One group member turn in the markers
