Glands Sweat glands: two types Merocrine: 3-4 million over the body, concentrated in the palms, soles and forehead, function is to cool the body, Sweat is 99% water, 1% waste Insensible perspiration: sweating with out wetness of skin Diaphoresis: sweating with wetness of skin, heat, exercise, (1L/hour)

Glands Sweat Apocrine: Occur in groin, anal region, axilla, areola and beard area Primary function sent for attraction Males emit more in sexual response and female release is cyclic with menstruation

Glands Sebaceous: holocrine gland Primary function to produce oily substance to keep skin and hair from drying out The oily substance is called sebum Shampoo removes sebum and conditioner and lanolin which is sheep sebum Brushing hair is the best way to prevent damage from drying (i.e. split ends)

Glands Ceruminous: Are found in the external ear canal Primary function is to produce cerumen (earwax) Cerumen protects inner ear from bugs, debris, water and is antibacterial

Glands Mammary: Not to be confused with breasts, both sexes have breasts only females have mammary glands The female breast contains a relatively small amount of mammary glands in relation to the size of breast Produces milk for offspring during pregnancy or hormone imbalance
