2 ANS Part of the PNS (peripheral nervous system). Serves the internal organs and glands of the body. It controls the automatic movements, such as heart rate, digestion, and perspiration.

3 The ANS can be divided into the sympathetic and parasympathetic branches. Both are related to emotional responses, such as crying, sweating, heart rate, and other involuntary behavior.

4 Sympathetic and Parasympathetic Branches Sympathetic-“emergency” system. It prepares the body for fight or flight during times of danger or high emotion Parasympathetic- quiets the body and returns it to a lower level of arousal. It is most active soon after an emotional event
