18 Professional Development Descriptions DRAFT Copyright, Intellectual Property, Fair Use half-day workshop provided by the Bibliographical Center for Research. “Widely available digital media present teachers and media specialists with new opportunities and challenges, particularly when it comes to the area of copyright. This workshop will help teachers and media specialists traverse the murky waters of downloadable media, copyright law, fair use parameters and the TEACH Act. The workshop will include break-out sessions to interact with your peers in real world scenarios, as well as the opportunity to draft usage guidelines for your classroom, school or district”. Bibliographical Center for Research. Academic databases available in Littleton. Teachers and instructional staff will be give orientations to electronic academic databases, overviews on intended uses, and time to determine where in their curriculum the databases are appropriates resources. Teachers and staff will have tools and knowledge to “Google-proof” their assignments. Further, teachers will demonstrate the ability to lead students’ use to the library databases.

19 Professional Development Descriptions DRAFT Internet Safety Workshop: Led by Mike Harris, Detective at Jefferson County District Attorney’s office. Technology in the Writing Area. Focus will be given to pre-writing strategies, such as developing graphic organizers, collaborative brainstorming, and webbing. Drafting, editing, revising, and work shopping, both student to peer and student to teacher, will be emphasized. 21st Century Publication Methods, We will look at culminating the writing process with a variety of digital tools. These will include assessment tools, such as online rubrics and web-based writing review tools. Using contemporary tools such as blogs, wikis, or podcasts, teachers will have a variety of mediums in which to showcase their students’ work. Best practice student publication norms will be highlighted, taking into account the earlier workshop events of safety, intellectual property, and high-caliber writing.
