THE LOVE FACTOR Intro. Christianity not based on love, but on Christ & his word (Matt.7:24-27; Jn.12:48). Love, however, is the major factor. John.13:34-35 goes beyond Leviticus 19:18. “…even as I have loved you,” to the death. Hence, the mark of the Christian.

P.2, The Home I. WHAT ARE WE TALKING ABOUT? A. In English only one word expresses all nuances of meaning. Does not express the quality of that love. meaning. Does not express the quality of that love. B. In Greek 3 Words: Each expresses a distinct quality: quality: 1. Eros, sexual love, Romans identified with Cupid. 2. Phileo, feeling love. As in Tit.2:3-4 3. Agape, unselfish love without sexual implica- tions, whether feel like or not. E.g., God’s & Christ’s love for mankind, Jn.3:16 Cf Isa.9:6, the child is born…the son is given. “Marvel not, brethren, if the world hates you. We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brethren. He that loves not abides in death. Whosoever hates his brother is a murderer: and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. Hereby know we love, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. But whoso has the world’s goods, and beholds his brother in need, and shuts up his compassion from him, how does the love of God abide in him?
