Referred to infancy as the oral sensory stage Major emphasis on the mother’s positive and loving care for child. Trust to have basic confidence in the future and your life. Could possibly have a deep feeling of worthlessness and mistrust the world in general.

Learn to master skills on our own The opportunity to gain self esteem and authority Very venerable at this stage The most significant relationship is with the parents

Tend to copy the adults around us, ex: repeat words, follow actions. May easily experience guilt, such as pulling a cats tail, hurting another child by accident and not realizing it. Involved in the “oedipal struggle” struggle through social role identification.

Stage also referred as the “the latency”. Develop a sense of industry Experience unresolved feeling of inadequacy and inferiority among peers. Problems with self esteem and competence ex. School could have major impact on the child’s self esteem.

Development depends upon what is done to the child at this age. Life is more complex as we try to find our identity “moratorium”, withdrawing from responsibilities Most significant relationship is with peer groups

Seek more companions and love Generally begin a family Experience intimacy on a deep level Isolation may occur if you aren’t as successful, you may feel worthless, depressed useless if you think little of yourself for not being as successful in certain things. Most significant relationship is with marital parents and friends

This stage is more crucial, ex: work, friends, family, expectations from your boss or any other particular subject in your life. Tend to be occupied with more meaningful work Most significant relationships are shared within the workplace, the community and the family.

Look back on our lives with happiness and are content because you know the hard part is over. In some cases you feel despair at your experiences and perceived failures. Accepting death as the completion of life The most significant relationship is with all mankind, “my kind”.
