1  What are the three levels of listening we learned yesterday?  Briefly describe one of them.

2  I can define the word STAFF as it used in music.  I can draw a staff, and draw notes on the lines and spaces.

Lines and spaces are both numbered from low to high.

4  Complete 1, 2, and 3 on the worksheet entitled The Staff.  This should take less than 5 minutes to complete.  Be sure to read all directions thoroughly.  If you have any questions raise your hand.  Do not talk during this exercise unless called upon by the teacher.

8 The Ancient Greeks discovered a number ratio that occurs in nature at an astounding rate. They discovered that when applied to art, this ratio creates pleasing results. This ratio is known as the “Golden Ratio” or the “Golden Mean”Golden Mean

9  1.618 to 1  Series of numbers that create this ratio is called the Fibonacci Numbers  1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21,34, etc.  Musical Example Musical Example

10  Many scholars study the Golden Ratio and attempt to apply it to various “things” in the world. Do you think it “works” if forced upon an art form?  Do you think the concept of the Golden Ratio is part of a “Grand Design?”

12  Can you draw a staff?  Can you draw notes on the lines and spaces?  How many lines are there on a staff?  How many spaces?  Notes that are placed lower on the staff sound __________ than notes placed higher on the staff.  Notes that are placed higher on the staff sound __________ than notes placed lower on the staff.
