The Volunteers In Public Schools (VIPS) program is an established vehicle for parent and community involvement with organizational and human resource management structure in place. The purpose of VIPS is to support and enrich the lives of school children and to stimulate an interested community to a more active support of public education. ECISD celebrates the 492 VIPS who volunteered 46,226 hours during the 2011-12 school year at a value of $1 million worth of academic and support services. ECISD students, faculty, and staff benefit from the hard work, support, and care provided by the Volunteers in Public Schools. VIPS Program Debbie Rogers, CVA Certified Volunteer Administrator

Maximize the success of all students through Ensuring safety: Bullying and gang prevention (Watch DOGS, Kids On the Block); parking lot, bus, cafeteria, recess, hall duties. Mentoring, tutoring, lunch buddies providing assistance with special ed. and classrooms; writing assistance, math reinforcement, reading improvement and practice Perform various tasks (workroom, uniform alterations, grading, copying, special events, office, library, nurse, CSCOPE, fine arts, athletics/PE) How can Volunteers help?

Step 2 Upon approval following background check, VIPS Chair gives VIP form to obtain ID badge and internet user policy with signature page and confidentiality agreement. Step 3 VIP must call to make appointment with District Police for ID badge – must take form.

VIPS must always wear their ID badge or a visitor sticker while volunteering on ECISD property.

VIPS must sign in every time and must sign out every time leaving campus. To safeguard our students and maintain campus security So VIPS may be found in case of an emergency For ECISD to recognize and thank all VIPS for their service

The principal has the final say on campus. Volunteers must always work within the rules of the school set by the principal and District policy.

Keep confidential matters within the school Discussion of confidential matter/criticism of students or school personnel is inappropriate Don’t share information that might be harmful to a student or employee

Come with a smile and good attitude – That says to the principal and personnel, “I’m glad you asked me to help you.” That says to students, “You are special.”

Review & comply with district & campus policies and rules Confidentiality Treat everyone with respect Dress appropriately and modestly Be dependable, punctual, & professional

VIPS should understand their assignments and follow instructions. The teacher is in charge of the classroom.

Discipline rests with the teacher and staff. If you have concerns over unacceptable behavior report it to the a teacher or the staff at once.

Use of cell phones on campus -- Follow rules set by the principal. Please contact your VIPS Chair or school office if you cannot volunteer for your assignment or if you are running late.

Occasionally, someone will mistakenly view volunteers as amateurs. They need to remember that Noah’s Ark was built by amateurs and the Titanic was built by professionals.
