No two days are ever the same Not struggling for funding Enjoyable work Networking opportunities Committees Salaried

Travel Number of bosses Conflicting mission Committees that don’t do much work

Politics Public Image Always trying to make your case Deal with criticism

No real “bottom-line” You might find yourself working 60+ hours a week Pay less than private sector jobs but they have a variety of low cost benefits Lots of regulation Hard to get fired “Family friendly”

Can be perceived as more glamorous than a government job Similar jobs will often pay more in the private sector Large corporations will offer an array of benefits Smaller companies might not offer benefits at all and instead offer a “stipend”, or offer work on a contractual basis, meaning you would be self employed There is no such thing as a 40 hour work week. Much of your job performance will be based on the bottom line More “hard core” and unforgiving ….yet can be rewarding Bonuses!

Enter a new job humble, but confident. Never arrogant. Appearance Appearance Appearance!! The way you dress can hold you back professionally. Buy an iron and use it! Never go to work with wet hair Save your own brand of personal style for off hours its not appropriate for the workplace
