What is Narcolepsy? It is also known as daytime sleep disorder It causes one to sleep during the daytime often and can’t control one’s sleeping habits Drowsiness

Causes of Narcolepsy The exact causes aren’t known The disorder MAY be genetic MIGHT be caused by diseases

More information… People with narcolepsy may have fewer neurons that help make transitions between sleeping and wakefulness. The conditions that cause insomnia can affect narcolepsy

When? Some people just dream and begin falling asleep Usually this occurs after meals Happens mostly in situations that use little motion such as driving a car or talking to your neighbor May fall asleep at any random time

What happens? After a short sleep, the person feels refreshed when wakened However, they may fall asleep soon instantly. Can have dreamlike hallucinations/weakness between the time period of sleeping and waking up Severe lost of muscle tone

And…? (Extra information) This can cause: Depression Fainting Seizure disorders Lack of sleep No cure--but can take medications and get help through the ones you know best (family, friends, counselors, teachers, etc.)
