PARAGRAPH CONSTRUCTION 1 st sentence/Topic Sentence: Supports your thesis statement. Example: Daisy intentionally led Gatsby on because she was bored with her husband and fed up with his cheating. 2 nd sentence: Sets up the quote I want to use. You need to be able to paraphrase what is going on (plot, dialogue, etc.) before the quote is said. 3 rd sentence is my quote “You always look so cool (Fitzgerald ___).” 4 th sentence: Analyzes the language of the quote, or the intention of the quote. Daisy mutters that compliment to Gatsby in front of Tom as a way to make him jealous. 1 st sentence/Topic Sentence: Supports your thesis statement. Paraphrase what is going on before the quote is said. Sentence 8: Insert the next quote (Fitzgerald 89). Sentence 9/10: Analyze the quote.
