3. Similar Attitudes Toward Sin Can Infect Us  Like David’s army, we are in a battle, 2 Cor 10:3-4; Eph 6:12  Tempted to develop attitudes that minimize sin May become careless and cavalier: “Don’t let it bother you”! Process of hardening the heart, Matt 15:8; Heb 3:12-13; 1 Tim 4:1-2 3

4. Gospel Preachers (2 Tim 4:2) “Don’t let it bother you!”  When brethren won’t endure sound doctrine, 2 Tim 4:3-4 (2 Cor 11:4) Just preach “smooth things”, Isa 30:8-11 They will love you for it! cf. Jer 20:7-10 Remember: Your preaching will save you and others; or cause you both to be lost! 1 Tim 4:16; cf. Ezek 3:16-18 4

Gospel Preachers (2 Tim 4:2) “Don’t let it bother you!”  When you make room for error, Gal 2:5 By not defending the truth (Phil 1:17) By belittling those who do You are liable to get a reputation for being a nit-picker, a watchdog, overly-righteous Pharisee, judgmental, “DC” Eccl 7:16; Matt 23:23 Anyway…“It’s not a salvation issue”! Gal 1:6-10 5

Elders (Acts 20:28; 1 Pet 5:2; Heb 13:17) “Don’t let it bother you!”  When a weak member falls away “That’s going to happen, you know.” 1 Tim 4:1 ○ Such elders are hirelings, not shepherds! 1 Pet 5:2-3; Jn 10:11-13 “We didn’t expect him/her to remain faithful anyway.” ○ Go find the “one”, Lk 15:4; 2 Cor 11:28-29 6

7. Elders (Acts 20:28; 1 Pet 5:2; Heb 13:17) “Don’t let it bother you!”  When error creeps into the thinking of members “You can’t control what others think, so don’t worry about it.” ○ True, but we work to bring every thought into captivity to obey Christ, 2 Cor 10:5 (Psa 19:14) ○ False doctrine in the heart will reveal itself, harming us and others, Matthew 16:6 7

8. Christians (1 Pet 4:16) “Don’t let it bother you!”  When you commit sin “Everybody does it, after all”; and “Nobody’s perfect!” ○ Simon’s one sin, Acts 8:20-23 ○ Have no fellowship with sin…shameful…it is not your master, Eph 5:7-8, 11; Rom 6:6-7, 11 ○ Repent and confess, do not ignore, 1 Jn 2:1-2 ○ Do not practice sin, 1 Jn 3:4-10 8

Christians (1 Pet 4:16) “Don’t let it bother you!”  That the sins of others can hurt you and the church (1 Cor 5:6) “It’s not my sin…I’m not affected.” ○ Evil companions do affect your morals, 1 Cor 15:33 ○ Your fellowship with those who teach/practice error does affect your fellowship with God, 2 Jn 10-11 (Jas 1:27) 9

10. Christians (1 Pet 4:16) “Don’t let it bother you!”  When you habitually miss worship services (Heb 10:24-25) “Everyone is busy and has things to do.” “I’m here more than some people.” ○ Worship is being given an inferior position in your life, Matt 6:33 10

11. Christians (1 Pet 4:16) “Don’t let it bother you!”  When you are not growing in the Lord (1 Pet 3:18) Prayer, Bible reading and living, service, etc. “I’m as strong as bro/sis _____ over there.” ○ Do not compare yourself to others; compare yourself to Christ! 2 Cor 10:12 11

12. “Don’t let it bother you!”  Code for “don’t feel responsible”… When we are responsible! Be sober, be watchful, and do not harden your heart! 1 Pet 5:8; Heb 3:7-8 12
