3. © Imperial College LondonPage 3 Entry into ST1 (First Year of Training) To hold a recognised primary medical qualification To be registered with the UK GMC at the time of application OR passed both parts of PLAB and be eligible for UK GMC registration at time of application To have achieved foundation programme competence or equivalent before starting a GP training programme. I.e. satisfactory completion of a UK F2 post OR satisfactory completion of a PRHO post AND 12 months SHO post OR equivalent. To hold a current valid driving licence OR able to provide satisfactory alternative as a means of providing emergency and domiciliary care to fulfil the requirements of the post

Satisfactory completion of 12 months in UK SHO posts educationally approved post for GP training provided all 12 months meet the requirements of PMETB OR Approved and accredited equivalent previous experience

7. © Imperial College LondonPage 7 Stage 1: Long-list Once your application has been submitted through the MTAS system, your application will be reviewed and provided it meets essential eligibility criteria (UK GMC registration, able to legally work in UK, etc) your application will be accepted Almost all candidates are likely to pass this stage Take care in filling the form The form is different from that used in previous years and no additional information will be needed

8. © Imperial College LondonPage 8 Stage 2: Assessment for short-listing You will be asked to attend an initial assessment which forms the short-listing process. This assessment is conducted under examination conditions and you will be asked to agree to a set of rules before you can proceed. Stage 2 assessments are being conducted on 24th February 2007 in deaneries across the UK and you will be booked to attend at the closest available centre to where you are currently living The Stage 2 assessment consists of two 90 minute papers to be completed under invigilated conditions: Clinical Problem Solving and Professional dilemmas Candidates who pass this assessment will be asked to attend for the Stage 3 selection process

9. © Imperial College LondonPage 9 Stage 3: Selection You will be invited to attend selection centre dependent upon your stage 2 assessment score, your geographical preferences and availability of places. MTAS will match highest scoring candidates in rank order to their first choice deanery to attend selection centre, or to the next highest deanery preference if no places remain You will only be invited to attend at one deanery and you will be expected to attend Selection methods may vary slightly in each deanery but all deaneries will assess candidates against the competencies outlined in the National Person Specification Further training will be given on the March 24 course. A second course may also be held on March 17

10. © Imperial College LondonPage 10 Stage 4: Allocation and Offer Programmes will be allocated to successful candidates depending upon performance at interview, the training programme required and availability of a suitable vacancy National Clearing will commence for those candidates who have scored highly enough to be considered for a place, but who have not been offered a post in their first choice deanery
