9. Seattle has had inhabitants long before the first European settlers came along in 1851. There were two tribes by the time they arrived. The tribes were called by Duwamish and Suquamish. Seattle was named after the tribe’s chief, Sealth. Today, Seattle has evolved into a major, successful city in which 592,800 people now call home. The Klondike Gold Rush in 1896 led to Seattle becoming a major area for commerce. It began when gold was found in the Klondike river; since 1896, 12.5 million ounces of gold has been taken from the river. On June 6 th, 1889, a fire, caused by an accident in a carpentry shop burned nearly all of Seattle, caused the downfall of a booming industrial city. With a desire to rebuild the city quickly, the population rapidly increased, the city was reborn and made what we now see as Seattle.

10. One of the most popular tourist attractions in Seattle is the Space Needle. The Space Needle has a variety of activities to do: visit an exquisite restaurant, see a panoramic view, have a private party, go shopping, and you can even take school courses up in the Space Needle! The Fremont Troll! Quite possibly the most eccentric and yet highly amusing tourist attraction. Perhaps its unique nature is what entices people to the Fremont Troll. Sculpted by four artists, this Troll poses as the social center point of Seattle and it is even the host of an event called Trollaween every October.
