Cycle 1, Day 0 Teambuilding

 Come up with three statements about yourself that no one in the room knows about you.  Two of the statements must be true.  The third statement must contain a lie (all of it or just a part of it).  You may want to write them on a piece of scratch paper to help you remember them.  When it is your turn, share them in any order you like and your group will have to guess which one is the lie.  As a group, think of two truths and a lie to share with the class.

 Take a few minutes to introduce yourself to your team members.  Assess, as a group, what your strengths and weaknesses are.  Discuss what you can do to help each other to get past one person’s weakness.  Create a plan for achieving this goal.  Get each other’s contact information so that you can get help if you need it.

 When it is your turn, standup facing your partner.  Next, stare at each other for one minute and take in as much as you can during that time.  After the minute is up, sit down so you cannot see your partner.  The second set of partners will then ask a series of questions to see what you observed about your partner.  Examples: “What color are Ms. Scheidt’s eyes?” or “What pattern is on Mr. Leybas’ tie?”

 Why is it important for us to create whole class goals?  What can you do to help the class achieve that goal?  What can you do if someone isn’t doing their part?  How will we measure our success as a class?  How will you measure your success in relation to your classmates?  What do you need to be successful?

 Move into a large circle as a class.  Come up with as many FACTS as you can about our subject.  Our subject is: COOPERATIVE LEARNING  As we go around the circle, state your fact.  If you don’t think what someone says is a fact, call out “Just the Facts” and that person will have to justify their fact.  If you get caught with a statement that is not a fact, you are out for this round.  The winner is the last one with a fact.
