2 What Is It? Ethanol is a colorless liquid with a slight odor. Ethanol is a psychoactive drug with a depressant effects and is widely regulated. Boils at 78 degrees Celsius. Effects the liver, and motor functions. Highly flammable.

4 Where is it found Ethynol is found in alcoholic drinks in different percentages.

5 What Effect Does It Have On The Body? Alcohol is readily distributed throughout the body in the aqueous blood stream after consumption. It crosses important bodily membranes to effect a large number of bodily functions. Majority of alcohol is absorbed from the stomach, and small intestine. The 10 percent of alcohol that isn’t oxidized is given off in sweat, urine, and breath.

6 …Continued Alcohol effects the brain as a depressant. Alcohol causes disinhibilitation Long term alcohol consumption can cause liver failure. Alcohol has negative effects on fetus. Alcohol can cause child deformities. Alcohol consumption can be positive to the heart in small doses, and negative in high doses.

7 Abuse vs. Social Drinking For a "social drinker," the alcohol is not necessary, though it may be enjoyable. A social drinker can refrain from drinking alcohol when it is inappropriate to do so. Social drinkers are in no way dependent. Alcoholics are dependent on alcohol to function in social settings and drink constantly just because.

8 Court Case Involving Ethyl Alcohol A case in Illinois where a couple, Sara and Jeffrey Hutsell, was charged for the death of Daniel Bell’s, an 18 year old, death. Daniel was under the influence and he got into a car wreck, also killing his 18 year old friend in the passenger seat, Ross Trace. The Hutsell couple was proven innocent but looked down upon by others.
