Slide District XXXX Membership Seminar District 5240 Membership 2010-11 10 Interesting meetings Great programs Participation events Community Involvement Empowered members The key to membership AN ACTIVE CLUB

Slide District XXXX Membership Seminar District 5240 Membership 2010-11 Retaining Members Do you have retention goals? Do you monitor club member participation? Do you have a plan for reaching out to members who you don’t see at meetings and events? How do you get feedback from your members regarding their satisfaction with your club? How well do your members know each other? Do you know why members leave? In these times of economic challenge, what does your club do to assist members with: Business problems Personal concerns Competing priorities 11

Slide District XXXX Membership Seminar District 5240 Membership 2010-11 12 Retaining Members Have interesting and relevant club programs. Find your new member’s passions and get them involved in those areas Focus on participation – not attendance Hold regular meetings with new members to continue their Rotary education and answer their questions. Create opportunities for members to interact outside of club meetings Hand on projects Socials Encourage members to take advantage of events and training outside normal club meetings (e.g., PRLS, Poverty Conference, District Conference)

Slide District XXXX Membership Seminar District 5240 Membership 2010-11 Retaining Members Something to do right now Have your club members create a 30 second description of your club? Ask each members to use the club description to create a personal answer to the question “Why are you a Rotarian”? 13

Slide District XXXX Membership Seminar District 5240 Membership 2010-11 Reaching Out Did you know - Gen X and Gen Y want to do something that is relevant to their community and to their world 14

Slide District XXXX Membership Seminar District 5240 Membership 2010-11 Reaching Out Have you considered a community-based Rotaract club? Do you use technology to communicate your message: Downloadable web content LinkedIn You Tube Facebook Is your local community aware of your contributions? Are the parents of your Interact Club members and RYLA students members of your club? Do you have programs or plans for understanding and addressing the needs of younger members? How does your New Generations program help create the next generation of Rotarians? 15

Slide District XXXX Membership Seminar District 5240 Membership 2010-11 Reaching Out Something to do right now Create a cluster of new members, give them a budget and let them select and lead a project 16

Slide District XXXX Membership Seminar District 5240 Membership 2010-11 Some Membership Truths One size does not fit all: membership programs must be tailored for local needs Goals must be realistic: unachievable goals are disincentives Doing the same old thing has two problems: same and old The problem is not recruiting – it is retention Communication is the key: to your community and to your members Membership is teamwork: every member of your club is on the membership committee 17
