2 Overview About MYSA Core Areas of Work Working with Migrant and Refugee Youth: Support and Service Provision

3 About MYSA State representative advisory, advocacy and service delivery body for young migrants and refugees aged between 12 and 30 years. We were established 11 years ago. MYSA is recognised locally and nationally for it’s leadership on migrant and refugee youth issues. We are located at Shop 9 Millers Arcade, 28 Hindley St, Adelaide. MYSA will be opening up the “Multicultural Youth Education and Development Centre” (MYEDC) onsite at the Adelaide Secondary School of English (ASSOE) in January 2011.

4 Core Areas of Work Our core areas of work: 1.Advocacy, Policy and Research Australian Multicultural Advisory Council Evidence Based Research 2. Sector Support and Development Training Collaboration and Consultation Partnership Development

5 Core Areas of Work 3. Community Capacity Building Multicultural Youth Development Fund (MYDF) 4. Direct Service Delivery Outreach / Individualised Support Group Work Programs and Projects Recreation 5. MYSA International A free service for TAFE SA international students supporting them with their transition to living and studying in Adelaide.

6 Working with Migrant and Refugee Youth: Support and Service Provision MYSA’s approach to group work and individualised services are underpinned by a range of key principles;

7 Working with Migrant and Refugee Youth: Support and Service Provision Partnerships MYSA’s commitment to service excellence and in leading best practice is based on its demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective partnerships and relationships with a wide range of government and non-government service providers, schools, community groups, etc Engagement and Participation - Schools & Service Providers Flexible, responsive, innovative approaches to better assist schools and service providers to strategise and meet the existing and emerging needs of migrant and refugee young people.

8 Working with Migrant and Refugee Youth: Support and Service Provision - Young People MYSA engages young people in ongoing consultative processes and encourages their participation in all aspects of service delivery including design, development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation. Outreach MYSA can and will meet a client at their point of need Empowerment and Development MYSA recognises the right of migrant and refugee clients to participate in decision making that affects their lives to give them the best opportunities to develop solutions to their own problems. The focus should be on how they see their situation, what they see to be their needs, and what they want to see change.
