SEC/TAC Liaison Report Ron Kohl

Linking Standards to TCs/PCs (1 of 2) Last time (Aug. 2014) I told you:  0 stds with no outreach at all; all stds have had a ‘linked TC’ contacted for adoption  34 STds in the Mission Assurance package adopted by the SETC  Other TCs have stepped up and agreed to be ‘linked’ to a CoS  Only 8 stds still in need of a ‘linked TC’ and all are ‘in the works’  Starting to use other TAC assets to assist effort, completion expected by Scitech 2015 2

Linking Standards to TCs/PCs (2 of 2) This week I am telling you:  Task completed; all current AIAA Standards have a TC or PC (or more) ‘linked’ to them  This action is now part of our SEC’s SOP (and has been for over a year)  Given that this ‘linkage’ is new to some TCs/PCs, the SEC will monitor this linkage at least annually  Plans are to report on this specific item only if problems return 3

Collaborating with the Commercial Space Federation (CSF) Some time ago, Sandy engaged the CSF to discuss possible Standards collaboration Agreements were made, but still ‘in works’, and a first such Standard was proposed  'Occupant Imparted Loads' SEC interacting with TAC, SMG and other AIAA space community members to pursue further opportunities and solicit support 4

Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) Standards opportnities Similar effort to the CSF effort, but less mature AIAA is looking for opportunities for Standards As this effort matures, the SEC will keep the TAC informed and solicit support as needed 5

New Standards 2014, 2015 2014: 2 new standards approved and released for public consumption 2015: 3 new standards currently ‘under construction’ Don’t forget, all AIAA Standards are free to AIAA members 6

Campaign to Collect Informal Practices for Standards Objective: To identify informal documentation already developed by TCs and PCs that could potentially be released as AIAA Standards*: Best Practices Lessons Learned Guidelines Tips on using tools or applying methodologies Rules of Thumb Collections of related technical papers *Note: Standards documents include Standards, Recommended Practices, Guides, and Special Project Reports 7

Campaign to Collect Informal Practices for Standards Implementation: Standards to prepare communication for distribution to TC/PC chairs and chairs of their Standards Subcommittees (where applicable)  No pressure or request to develop anything new AIAA Standards to work with responding committees to review documentation and convert to standards where appropriate 8

Campaign to Collect Informal Practices for Standards Advantages: Informal capture of lessons learned and best practices can have a broader appeal than more formal standards TCs/PCs get visibility for the good work they have already completed Provides for distribution to the greater aerospace community Promotes widespread adoption of the content Provides value to the AIAA members - free access to all AIAA standards 9
