Voice Choose a voice that matches audience and purpose for writing Use vivid adjectives to give strong details Use interesting language to involve readers Put yourself and your feelings into your writing

Sentences Use different ways to start sentences – Use nouns, adverbs, adjectives, pronouns, prepositional phrases, etc.. Vary kinds and length of sentences – Use questions, exclamations, and statements Connect short, choppy sentences with conjunctions (and, but, although, because)

Conventions Remember CAPS Capitalize all proper nouns and adjectives as well as first word in sentence Agreement-make sure subjects and verbs agree Punctuation-make sure there is an end mark for each sentence and other punctuation marks are used correctly (commas) Spelling-use a dictionary Use proofreading marks

Make a CAPS conventions card Use highlighters to help distinguish CAPS Use green to draw line on top of card-label Capitalization Use pink to draw line on bottom of card-label Punctuation Use yellow to draw line on left side of card and label Spelling Use orange draw line on right side of card and label Agreement
