Dealing with drugs in the prison system establishing in prison drug treatment programmes o oworkshops for prison guards o otraining of NGO service providers in the community who provide drug counselling for offenders o oworkshops with medical personal on addressing the medical consequences of drug abuse o oestablish evidence base on impact of incarceration on criminal careers of drug offenders o oidentify obstacles to alternative forms of disposing of drug offenders o oaddress skill gap in dealing with drug offenders in prison o odevelop alternatives to custodial sentencing o odevelop strategies for reintegration of released drug using inmates RESEARCH GAPS

Referral process o oimprove the referral process whereby drug using offenders are referred to NGOs working with substance abuse after release RESEARCH GAPS
