Born Champlain was born about 1570.

Spring of 1609 In spring of 1609 he sent out a couple of Algonkians to search regions South of Quebec which is now New York.

1609 The French sent Champlain to travel up the St.Lawerance and Richelieu Rivers to the lake that was named in his honor.

1603 - 1616 On his seven trips from 1603 to 1616 he found settlements, became friends with Algonkian tribes and increased the French fur trade.

Giving up Quebec In 1609 he was forced to give up Quebec to Sir David Kirke who held it for the English until 1633.

Founder of Lake Champlain Once he was going up a large lake he was the first to go on it so he called it after him.

Importance He is important because he set up the French fur trade
