The LORD’s Name  “You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.” (Deut.5:11; Ex.20:7)  “And you shall not swear by My name falsely, nor shall you profane the name of your God: I am the LORD.” (Leviticus 19:12)  The Jews were constantly reminded of this command. (Lev.18:21; 20:3; 21:6; 22:2,32; Prov.30:9; Isaiah 52:5)

Since God’s name stands for God Himself, to have a flippant or irreverent attitude toward His name is equivalent to having the same kind of attitude toward Him. Thus, taking the Lord’s name in vain includes any use of God’s name in a flippant, empty, irreverent manner. The phrase “Oh my God?” is a scriptural phrase, found 21 times in the Bible, all in the Old Testament. Here are a few instances: The LORD’s Name

 (Neh. 13:22) Remember me, O my God, concerning this also, and spare me according to the greatness of thy mercy.  (Psa. 3:7) Arise, O LORD; save me, O my God: for thou hast smitten all mine enemies upon the cheek bone; thou hast broken the teeth of the ungodly.  (Psa. 25:2) O my God, I trust in thee: let me not be ashamed, let not mine enemies triumph over me.  (Psa. 71:4) Deliver me, O my God, out of the hand of the wicked, out of the hand of the unrighteous and cruel man.  (Dan. 9:18) O my God, incline thine ear, and hear; open thine eyes, and behold our desolations, and the city which is called by thy name…. The LORD’s Name

“A son honors his father, and a servant his master. If then I am the Father, where is My honor? And if I am a Master, where is My reverence? Says the LORD of hosts to you priests who despise My name.” (Malachi 1:6) The LORD’s Name

"I saw Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen this morning and while it was a decent flick I was disappointed overall. I think that a lot of it could have been edited out; there was way too much overt and covert sexual stuff for a Transformers movie, and there was quite a bit of cursing, which doesn’t bother me but ensures that I won’t be taking my daughter to see it."

http://www.christandpopculture.com/asides/ but-they-use-gods-name-in-vain/ “…taken another way, when I pick out a movie, I don’t think: Man, I’d like to hear someone use “Jesus Christ” where any old expletive will do. In other words, I’m not watching the movie for that. One could question whether hearing someone say “Omigod” when they mean “Woah” or “Christ” when they mean “Skubulon” actually damages me as a member of the viewing audience, but I think for most of us the answer would be No. If it does for you then you know your weakness and should avoid it until it is no longer a weakness.… it’s important to know your boundaries.”

"There’s also some drug and sexual references in the first part of the movie which would be a bit much for younger viewers. Young teenagers with their heads screwed on and are able to look beyond these moments would be fine."

“I was really disappointed. My husband will hate it and be really upset I let the kids see it. But that was before I knew about that scene. It's a shame. And there is no way you can edit that scene either...it's completely ingrained in the whole workings of the plot. “And the closing love scene was supposed to be a nice romantic kiss...but it had the look and feel of almost soft porn. I found it offensive. I was also distressed because my older kids all seemed oblivious to it.

“My advice and what I did: Ok...you let the kids see it... but now.... completely ignore the movie and never buy it when it comes out. That way you get it out of the way, don't make a huge issue about it... they get to see it, but point out the unnecessary nature of that scene, and what the church teaches about sexual impurity and sexually objectifying other people....”
