Family Life Cycle Beginning Stage Couple setting in a home together and setting their goals for life. Parenting Stage Couple decides to have children. Launching Stage Children are now teens or young adults and leave the homes.

Family Life Cycle Middle Stage Parents have an empty nest and time to focus on being a family again. Retirement Stage Retire from your job, spend time with family members relaxing and reflecting on your life.

Family Life Cycle Life cycle may be different for every family. Increased number of boomerang kids. Children who move out of the house and return to their parents within 2-3 years.

Culture Background Some families are very similar to others while some families are very different from others. Make a list of 5 similarities you have with another family and 5 difference you have with another family.

Family Roles and Responsibilities Each family member has different roles and responsibly. Make a list of your roles within you family. Make a list of task or chores that have to be done around the house. Wash dishes. Now make a list of who does each of those task

Tips for having a strong family 1. Have a positive attitude about life and family. 2. Arrange to spend time together. 3. Show appreciation and love for one another. 4. Share beliefs, values, and goals.

Getting along in your family Getting along with families can be very challenging. Different age, gender, interest, responsibilities, abilities, personalities, and life experiences. Can improve family relationships by: Controlling your attitudes and actions Think though problem and solution before acting

You and Your Parents Relationships with parents may change frequently and feel like a roller coaster.

Increase Your Understanding What was your parents lives like? Learn the reasons behind their beliefs and action. If you don’t share your thoughts and feelings with them they can’t understand you.

Show Respect Disrespect results in anger and hurt feelings. Be aware of what your body language and tone of voice are saying. How can you change your actions to show more respect.

Act Responsibly Responsible teens get more privileges. Be honest, admit mistakes. Complete chores at home without reminders all the time. Let parents know if you are going to be late. Do your best in school Watch out for younger siblings

You and Your Siblings Sharing interest can help you get along. Being close in age does not mean you will get along. Older siblings may over protect younger siblings. Sibling Rivalry is common. Competition for love and attention from parents.
