2 Background  Role of SHAS  Passed June, 2011 (Bill 42)  Modeled after the Caregiver Recognition Act in Australia  Minister of Healthy Living, Seniors & Consumer Affairs  Seniors & Healthy Aging Secretariat

3 Purposes of the Act  Acknowledge the valuable contributions of unpaid caregivers;  Increase recognition and awareness of caregivers;  Help guide the development of a framework for caregiver recognition and supports.

4 Implementation using the CGPL 1.Government to consider and promote general principles re: caregiver supports Background information & research (overlap) Common framework to evaluate policy, practices & programs Consistent approach to new policy & program development Facilitates discussion & builds partnerships
