THE GREAT SPOTTED KIWI The Great Spotted Kiwi is the tallest Kiwi at about 45 cm. They live in high altitudes so that helps protect them from domestic animals. The estimated population in 2008 was around 16,000. They prefer the mountains as home.

THE NORTH ISLAND BROWN KIWI The North Island Brown Kiwi is the most iconic because it is all brown. The total population is around 25,000. These Kiwis prefer lowlands and coastal forests. But are also found in sub-alpine climates.

THE LITTLE SPOTTED KIWI There is thought to be about 15,000 in the wild and growing. They are the only Kiwi that only lives on offshore islands. A type of Little Spotted Kiwi was thought to live throughout the North Island but became extinct in the late 1800’s.

ENDANGERED SPECIES Kiwis are an endangered species. They are endangered because we keep building city's and destroying their habitat. We also let our dogs and cats out and they go hunting and sometimes kill a Kiwi. But luckily there is organizations that protect the Kiwis and New Zealand is a small country and does not pollute very much.
