Introduction This slide will be about the planet Mercury and all of it’s amazing facts. Mercury is the first planet to the Sun. Mercury is also the smallest planet so it has no atmosphere. The name means the Roman version of the Greek God Hermes.

The Size and Surface Of Mercury Mercury has no atmosphere. Since it has no atmosphere it has many craters on it. The surface is similar to Venus (who is Mercury’s right side neighbor), very rocky. It is not a gas giant. The surface at night can get as cold as below 300 degrees fahrenheit and as high as 800 degrees fahrenheit in the morning. Last Mercury’s diameter is 3,031 miles. So that is what scientists say about Mercury’s surface.

Sun And Moons Mercury does not have any moons. It is too small to hold any. Mercury is the closest planet to the Sun. The milage to the Sun from Mercury is 42.62 million miles. That is the reason why it is very very hot.
5
How Earth Comes In To Play Mercury and Earth are 116 million miles across and back. In Earth days it is 59 days to complete a day. The year in Earth time is 88 days. So that is how Earth comes into play.
6
The Days And Hours As you know Mercury is the closest planet to the Sun so it has a very short year that year or revolution is 88 days in Earth time. That also means the day is also short. The day is 59 Earth days. So those are the days and hours.

Fun Facts These are Mercury’s fun facts. First Mercury is called “The Morning Star.” it is called that because Mercury lights brightly in the morning. Speaking of lighting Mercury can get hotter than a kitchen oven!Another one is that scientists think that Mercury could have once been a core of another planet that’s crust, mantle, and outer core exploded! Hey if you weigh 100 pounds on Earth you would weigh only 37 pounds on Mercury! Did you know that on the dark side of Mercury is so dark, nothing can be seen! The first time they saw a close up on Mercury was only 7 years ago in 2008. You would think the technology would be more helpful. They saw close-ups way sooner than that since they sent a space probe up there in 1974. Did you know that Mercury is 4 or 5 times hotter than the hottest place on Earth! Well that is all of Mercury’s fun facts.
