The Land Location- south of Saudi Arabia and north of the gulf of Aden in the Arabian Peninsula Landforms- Coastline, sandy plain, mountains, deserts Water systems- There are no permanent water systems with the exception of the coast. Occasional lakes and streams form but are quickly evaporated by the heat. Natural Resources- included but not limited to petroleum, fish, rock salt, marble Graphics (next slide)

Climate/Vegetation Climate- hot and humid. The mountainous regions are affected by monsoons and therefore inconsistent. Native Wildlife –Golden-winged Grosbeak (national bird) –caracal, striped hyena, foxes, hares, crested porcupines, mongoose, Indian monitors, agamid lizards, jerboa, gerbils, chameleons, scorpions, camel spiders and snakes Common Vegetation –Many plants found in Yemen are used for medicinal purposes –Botany, Incense, Myrrh, Orchids

Culture Traditional Clothing oWomen wear a lithma or bourga’a, commonly known as a veil oBalto: the black robe that is worn above their clothes oMen wear the Jambia- a traditional dagger passed from father to eldest son through generations oThe jambia is not used as a weapon, but rather an accessory oCeremonial times are usually the only when the jambia is removed from it’s cover Traditional Foods –rice, meat, fish, salsa, fahssa, vegetables and salads
