When we say or this is called the subjunctive mood… “if I were” “if she were”

The trick: Use the subjunctive mood if the sentence is a “what if” or “if only” sentence.

If I were / was a magician, I’d turn life into a box of chocolates.

If I were / was a bird, I would fly far, far away…

If it was / were snowing in the northeast as much as the weather forecaster had predicted, I bet the kids there don’t have school today.

1.If I was / were a rich man, I’d buy lots of yard gnomes. 2.If this was / were Friday, we’d celebrate! 3.I think buying gnomes was / were the right choice. 4.If school was / were more interesting, I wouldn’t fall asleep. 5.I think students would like school if there was / were more gnomes.
