2. The Early Years Paul McCartney was born in 1942. His name was James Paul McCartney but people called him Paul. He was born in Liverpool. His mum was called Mary and his dad was called Jim.

3. Growing Up Paul McCartney’s mum died when he was 14. He was very sad. When he was older, he wrote a song about her called ‘Let it Be’.

4. He met John Lennon One day he went to a picnic in the park and he met John Lennon. John Lennon asked him if he wanted to join his band ‘The Quarrymen’. He said yes.

5. The Beatles After a while they changed their name to the Beatles. The Beatles were John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and George Harrison.

6. Paul and John Paul and John wrote most of the songs together for the Beatles. One of the songs he wrote was called ‘When I’m 64’. He wrote this when he was sixteen.

7. Beatlemania They wrote lots of songs and they sold millions of records. Everyone loved the Beatles and they were very busy and very popular. Everyone wanted to see them.

8. Paul and Linda Paul met Linda in 1967. She was from America. Her job was to take photographs. They got married in 1969 and they were very happy.

9. Paul and Linda Paul and Linda lived on a farm for many years. They did not like to eat meat. Linda sold food that did not have any meat in it.

10. The Beatles Ended The Beatles ended because they wanted to do different things. After The Beatles finished, Paul McCartney started a new band called ‘Wings’. His wife Linda was in this band. She sang.

11. John Lennon John Lennon was shot in 1980. When Paul found out John Lennon had been shot he was so upset. He cancelled his show with the ‘Wings’.

12. Sadness Paul and Linda were married for 28 years and they had three children together. He called one of them ‘Mary’ after his mum. Linda died a few years ago and Paul was very, very upset.

13. Today… Paul McCartney got married a few years later to a lady called Heather but he was not happy so they split up. They had a baby girl called Beatrice Milly.

14. Paul McCartney Paul McCartney still plays music today and is still loved by people. He is a very talented man. In 1997 he was given a special award from the Queen for his wonderful work in music. Now he is called ‘Sir Paul McCartney’.
