The Beatles

Formed in Liverpool in 1960, the band consisted of Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. They had 18 number ones in the UK and 22 number ones in the U.S including “Love me do”, “let it be” and “help”. From 1965 on, the Beatles produced what many critics consider their finest material, including the innovative and widely influential albums Rubber Soul (1965), Revolver (1966), Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967), The Beatles (1968), and Abbey Road (1969). The band split up in 1970 after many years of success and individually they all went on to successful careers.

John Lennon John Lennon MBE (9 October 1940 – 8 December 1980) was an English musician, singer and songwriter. Born and raised in Liverpool he rose to worldwide fame as a founder member of the Beatles, one of the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed acts in the history of popular music. Together with Paul McCartney, he formed one of the most celebrated songwriting partnerships of the 20th century.

John Lennon After the Beatles split up in 1970 Lennon embarked on a solo career that produced the critically acclaimed albums John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band and Imagine, and iconic songs such as "Give Peace a Chance" and "Imagine". Both songs reached number one in the US and UK.

John Lennon John Lennon was permanently protesting against wars in his music and general life and believed in peace for example he protested against the Vietnam war, as is evident in “give peace a chance”. Lennon disengaged himself from the music business in 1975 to devote time to raising his infant son Sean, but re-emerged with Ono in 1980 with the new album Double Fantasy. He was murdered three weeks after its release.

John Lennon´s death He was shot dead by Mark David Chapman at the entrance of the building where he lived, The Dakota, in New York City on 8 December 1980. Lennon had just returned from Record Plant Studio with his wife, Yoko Ono. Lennon was pronounced dead on arrival at St. Luke's- Roosevelt Hospital Center, where it was stated that nobody could have lived for more than a few minutes after sustaining such injuries.

John Lennon death Mark Chapman was the man that murdered John Lennon. Chapman fired at Lennon five times, hitting him four times in his back. Chapman later remained at the scene reading the book The Catcher in the Rye until the police arrived and arrested him. Chapman repeatedly claimed that the novel was his statement, and motivated the killing. On the right is a picture of Lennon signing something for Chapman, only hours before Chapman murdered him.
