Shingles is a skin rash caused by chicken pox. After having chicken pox, it remains dormant in the body. Shingles Robert Saunders & Zack Rosete 2A

Areas Affected As the virus “sleeps” in the body, it lies dormant in the nerve roots Wherever the rash is located, it can affect the skin surrounding the area

Progression of the Disease
It begins as a headache or sensitivity to light It possibly feels like symptoms of the flu but no fever Then itching and bands of rashes will appear The rash will fill with fluid and become blisters

Recovery and Treatment
The blisters may take 2-4 weeks to heal, but some people don’t get rid of the rash Antiviral medicines can ease the pain of the blisters and speed up the process of getting rid of the blisters There is a vaccine for people who are 50 or older Keeping the wound source clean is vital for treatment
