Systematic methods for rapid shallow bathymetry Develop methods for determining shallow bathymetry (tsunami apps) Indicates a substantial role for CEOS & space agencies

Feb 28 - Mar 2, 2007 GEOSS Strategic Way-foward 4 GEOSS Roadmap and Updated Status of Work Plan Tasks 2.1 Disaster SBA An overview of Disaster SBA's targets are; –In-situ observations: Expansion of seismic network (2 years target) and facilitating real-time monitoring of seismic, volcanic activities and tsunami propagation (6 and 10 years targets) are required. Facilitating pilot studies (2 years) and regional pilot projects (10 years) are also required. –Space-based observations: Strengthening the International Charter on Space and Major Disasters and similar supporting activities (2 years), and significant increase of SAR satellites, optimized L-band SAR for InSAR and an expanded L-band capacity for better forest and fuel characterization, hyper- spectral capability for monitoring smoke and pollution plumes, passive microwave capability for determining soil moisture (10 years) are required. Facilitating use of Lidar and InSAR technologies for topography in areas of low relief (6 years) and advocating development of systematic methods for rapid determination of shallow bathymetry (10 years) are required. –Integration: InSAR integration to warning and prediction system (2 years) and integration of InSAR and GPS (6 years) are required.

Feb 28 - Mar 2, 2007 GEOSS Strategic Way-foward 5 GEOSS Roadmap and Updated Status of Work Plan Tasks Updated status of 2006 work plan tasks Generally 2 years targets of architecture and data context are well covered by 2006 work plan tasks. For in-situ observation, seismographic networks improvement and coordination with addition of ocean bottom network (DI-06-02) is making a good progress. For space-based observation, use of geo-stationary satellite risk management (DI-06-09) is being implemented in the area of fire detection and volcanic ash monitoring. For integration, a good progress reported with integration of InSAR technology under IGOS Geohazard Theme leadership. In addition, a good progress of implementation of a tsunami warning system under IOC leadership was reported (DI-06-04) and implementation of a fire warning system at global level (DI-06-13) are being implemented.

A software package has been developed by IGOS Geohazards Bureau collaboration with BRGM to allow the capture of ISO standard metadata description of hazard maps. Green: good progress Yellow: in progress with some issues on activities, schedule, etc. Red: not active
