Objective: To factor polynomials completely

2. Review factoring: Factor out the greatest common monomial
Look for the difference of two squares
Look for a perfect square trinomial
If it is not a perfect square – is it x2+ bx + c? (factors of c that add up to b)
If it is ax2 + bx + c use “magic method” or trial and error to find factors of a and c.
If there are 4 or more terms, factor by grouping

3. 9ay2- 4a Factor out a common monomial
Factor as the difference of two squares

4. – 2x4 – 12x3 – 18x2 Factor out a common monomial
Factor as a perfect square trinomial.

5. 6n3 – 21n2 – 45n Factor out a common monomial
Use magic method or trial and error

6. x3y – xy + 5x2y – 5y
Factor by grouping
