3. Objective The student will be able to factor by distribution, grouping and factor trinomials.

4. Think, Pair, Share… I have the polynomial: 9x 2 + 36x and I would like to know what two polynomials were multiplied together to create this binomial, could I figure this out? If so, how if not why not?

5. Factoring by the Distributive Property Factor: 1 st find the GCF. 2 nd write each term as a product of the GCF. 3 rd use the distributive property to factor out the GCF.

6. Factoring by Grouping Factor: 1 st group terms with common factors. 2 nd factor the GCF from each grouping. 3 rd distributive property.

7. Factoring using the Additive Inverse Factor: 1 st group terms with common factors 2 nd factor the GCF from each grouping 3 rd simplify 4 th distributive property

8. Zero Product Property If the product of two factors is 0, then at least one of the factors must be 0. ab = 0 then, either a = 0 or b =0.

9. Solve an Equation in Factored Form Solve: 1 st set each equation to zero. 2 nd solve.
