Academics Grades are available through gradespeed.kleinisd.net E+ = Really Excellent work (Significantly above expected level) E = Excellent work S+ = Really Satisfactory (Slightly above expected level) S = Satisfactory (At expected level) N = Needs Improvement U = Unacceptable Some assignments are graded, some are not. Work that is not graded will have a or a check mark. This will be sent home throughout the week. Graded work is sent in the Tuesday folder ONLY.

Report Cards and Progress Reports Report cards are issued every 9 weeks. Mandatory 6 grades taken per subject, per 9 weeks Kindergarten does not issue progress reports.

Language Arts Handwriting: Manuscript Weekly letter focus: Two letters per week Sight words: Word banks and word wall Rhyming Counting syllables Concepts of print: words/letters, punctuation, capital and lower case, top to bottom, left to right, where to begin reading

Writing Inventive spelling is used. (Ex: rainbow =rnbo); see examples Writing on the sounds heard in the words. In the beginning, typically the first and last sounds heard. It’s going to look a little messy at first.

Our Reading and Writing Goals Children can identify capital and lowercase letters and their sounds Children can use those sounds to write words and sentences Children can use those sounds to sound out words Our goal is for your child to be READING books by the end of kindergarten

Our Math Goals Children can count aloud 1 – 100 Children can identify and write numbers 1 – 20 Children can count by 10’s, 5’s, 2’s to 100 Children can identify all 2d and 3d shapes Children can sort 3 different ways Children can make 3 different types of patterns Children can count ordinal numbers (1 st, 2 nd, 3 rd ) Children know position words (over, under, etc.)

Rules to Remember Clothing must be in dress code. Girls – no spaghetti straps or short shorts Please have girls wear shorts under their dress Medications go to nurse, not teacher; children may not carry medicine; this includes cough drops Please don’t let your child bring toys or jewelry

Attendance Each day your child is here on time, they get a sticker for their chart. Send notes for EVERY absence 15 or more unexcused absences can result in retention Tardies will affect conduct grade Early pick-up – must get office to sign out For transportation changes - give notice to teacher AND office

Transportation Please send a written note OR call the office and notify of any changes. Your child must have a written note to go home a different way.

Help at Home Read to your child and have your child read to you – This is the GREATEST PREDICTOR of success for children. PLEASE Practice: TYING SHOES Writing name Letters and sounds Word, number and shape banks Check backpacks every day

Homework 1 page each night: letter practice over letters taught the previous week Approximately 4 pages a week Homework folders are red and should be returned on Thursday with word banks. Homework will be sent home on Monday with new words in word banks. Word banks may be returned early for new words.

Tuesday Folders Please remove everything from the yellow Tuesday folder and return any school forms. Sign the bottom of the paper stapled in the folder and return Wednesday.

STAR Student Every child will be the star student one week! I will send home a letter with more information the week before your child is the star student. We started Star Student this week. Star student poster - Monday Star student show and tell - Wednesday Star student parent reading at 10:35 - Friday

Birthday Snack Food may not be brought from home to pass out to children. If you would like to order a birthday treat to be passed out at your child’s lunch, please contact the cafeteria. A cookie or ice cream is available for purchase.

College Shirt Day Every other Tuesday is “College Shirt Day” Children and Teachers may wear their favorite college shirt or college colors

Benfer Spirit Day Every FRIDAY is spirit day! School shirts may be purchased in the school store.
