How to get a program started at your school

Get administration on board Sign up as a program advisor online Sign your school up online Gather a team of a few other adults Gather a team of students Set up an informational meeting Teach the group how to sign up online Pick your plays Plan your kickoff Begin planning future events Submit your SUCCESS STORIES $$$ Apply for FUTP Funds $$$ Reap the REWARDS!!!

Share the great message that Fuel Up is based on Share the potential for receiving grant money Share some ideas on ways that the grant money would help your school Share the opportunities that you have heard about from other Program Advisors Share the change in school and community that could come from such a positive program

Go to FuelUpToPlay60.com Click on “Not a Student” (top left) Click on “I’m an Educator” Click on “Join” Find your school ◦ If your school is not listed, contact FUTP directly through “contact button” (bottom right) Look at your dashboard and familiarize yourself with the website

Gather a small team of adults (teachers, staff, or parents): ◦ Adults are just facilitating meetings and events that you may plan throughout the year Cooperate with your food services manager at your school: ◦ Share how FUTP60 can help you both

Announce a meeting time and place that works for you Have an informational meeting at school ◦ Contact Cindy or Pat for help/goodies Share what FUTP60 is and how your students can help spread the word Decide when, where, and how often you will meet Teach students how to join online ◦ See “How to Get Started with Fuel Up to Play 60” handout

Choose plays that will be the easiest to implement Complete the “Wellness Investigation” for ideas Include students when possible HAVE FUN!!!

Start small your first year Begin by making posters/announcements to get the word out Have students do as much of the planning/organization as possible ◦ Last year we had an informational booth at the “Holiday House” celebration at school ◦ This year we held “Back to Football Day” and borrowed fun interactive merchandise from the AZ Dairy Council Contact Cindy or Pat to borrow merchandise

Last year we: ◦ For Healthy Eating Play Held lunch time activities (incentive tickets) Held “What’s on Your Plate?” contest Held a fruit and yogurt dessert making activity Hosted fruit and veggie smoothie taste tests Purchased oranges and refreshments for Field Days Held our first annual “Family Fitness Night”

Last year we: ◦ For Activity Play Held our first annual “Family Fitness Night” Lead activity/exercise breaks at assemblies Organized recess activities (music and extra equipment) Purchased activity dice and activity cards for classroom teachers Sent links for “Brain Breaks/Activity Breaks” to classroom teachers Purchased new recess materials Purchased and reorganized recess bins

Take pictures of all of your events Share your pictures with your school and community (Facebook, news letters, etc.) Share your stories on the AZ Dairy Council Facebook page Have your students report their activities online Post your success stories/pictures online
