Missionaries are Absolved and Expelled (16:35-40)  With dramatic flair the reader suddenly learns that both Paul and Silas are Roman citizens protected by law against scourging  Acts 22:25-29 same situation  contrast 2 Cor 11:23-25 where he lists how he has been persecuted  Paul’s account 1 Thess 2:2 - “but though we had already suffered and been shamefully mistreated at Philippi”  Phil 1:3-5 sound more optimistic
