2
Experiment We tested how much an air-filled balloon and a helium-filled balloon expanded when raised 800 feet into the atmosphere.
3
Procedure -We used 2 video cameras to video tape the balloons as we raised them to 800 feet. -We used 2 video cameras to video tape the balloons as we raised them to 800 feet. - Every 200 feet, we stopped for 3 minutes. -When the balloon was resting we took the angle in order to know how high the balloon was off the ground

Helium Balloon Beginning: Middle: Beginning: Middle:

Hypothesis The air balloon will expand by 1/4 it’s original size. The helium balloon will expand by 1/2 it’s original size because helium is less dense than air so it has more room to expand.
6
Results The air-filled balloon did not visibly expand. After the flight, when pulling the balloon back down it did slightly deflate. The helium filled balloon expanded its radius about 1/8 of an inch. Then went back to its original size.
7
Possible Errors - String height was not exact - Measurement tool was not persistent - Sun mad the measurements of the tool hard to read (geocam) -Distance between two angle measurements where not exact and persistent -Wind may have affected the gondola between measuring angle distances
8
Changes for Future -Add a shade complex to eliminate shadows -Secure cameras more efficiently -Different expansion measuring method
9
conclusion In conclusion the helium balloon expanded slightly more than the air filled balloon -Helium balloon increased in size by around 1/8 of an inch -Air balloon deflated slightly -We believe it was due to the direct sunlight that warmed the air inside
