Another Look: an addition to the combined law Avocado's Law?
2
No silly Chem- Puter! Avogadro's Law! V₁ = V₂ n₁ n₂ Analyzing meaning of symbols…..
3
So what does Avogadro's law tell us? -In your groups interpret the relationship between volume and moles.
4
So what does Avogadro's law tell us? -In your groups interpret the relationship between volume and moles. - Now, figure out a way to put this into the combined gas law - Each group member will need to write down their conclusions to turn in.
5
Is this what you got? P₁V₁ = P₂V₂ T₁ n₁ T₂ n₂
6
Lets try this out A balloon with a volume of 220mL is filled with 2.0 moles helium. To what volume will the balloon expand if 3.0 moles helium are added, to give a total of 5.0 moles Helium (the pressure and temperature do not change)? Given V₁ = 220mL V₂= ? n₁ = 2.0moles n₂= 5.0 moles

8
STP and Molar Volume STP = Standard Temperature and Pressure T= 273 K P= 1atm On your sheets to turn in, convert these to torr and ⁰C
9
What can we do with STP? We can use STP to make conversions between moles and volume – 1 mole of gas at STP=22.4L – This is called molar volume
10
Draw these in your groups One from each of you for further analysis 1.What happens to the volume of a bicycle tire or a basketball when you use an air pump to add air 2.What happens when you blow up a balloon and release it 3.What happens in your lungs when you breathe in air? What happens when you breathe out air?
