United Nations/ Russian Federation/ European Space Agency/ Workshop on the Use of Micro-Satellite Technologies for Environmental Monitoring and Impact to Human Health UN/RF/ESA Workshop, Tarusa, Russia, 3-7 September 2007 1

Keynote Address UN/RF/ESA Workshop, Tarusa, Russia, 3-7 September 2007 2

Workshop carries out the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IKI RAN, Moscow) http://www.iki.rssi.ru/ in the territory of the Special Design Bureau of the Space Instrument Manufacture of the IKI RAN (SDB IKI RAN, Tarusa) http://tarusa.ru/skbkp1/skb.htm. http://tarusa.ru/skbkp1/skb.htm 3 UN/RF/ESA Workshop, Tarusa, Russia, 3-7 September 2007

Workshop is conducted in understanding of that fact that the progress of all countries in the sphere of science, education and economy is strongly interconnected and it also contributes to the steady development of the participating countries of the United Nations. 4 UN/RF/ESA Workshop, Tarusa, Russia, 3-7 September 2007

It is especially important to note that this Workshop is included in the Plan of the action (2006 - 2007) of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Roskosmos, dedicated to the celebration of 100- anniversary from the birthday S.P.Korolev, and 150- anniversary from the birthday K.E.Tsiolkovskyi and 50- anniversary of the launching of the first artificial earth satellite 5 UN/RF/ESA Workshop, Tarusa, Russia, 3-7 September 2007

The Program of Workshop includes the question 1. Space sciences (fundamental space physics, geophysics and ecology, aerospace biomedicine and biology). 2. Space technology (development and the manu- facturing of spacecraft to use the experience of the planetary studies; the ground tests of spacecraft). 3. The use of microsatellite for space education. 6 UN/RF/ESA Workshop, Tarusa, Russia, 3-7 September 2007

1. Space sciences 6 UN/RF/ESA Workshop, Tarusa, Russia, 3-7 September 2007

One of important observed natural phenomena within Space Weather program is Earth's magnetic field (or geomagnetic field). It was experimentally shown that this influence, in particular, is observed at people with heart problems. 6 UN/RF/ESA Workshop, Tarusa, Russia, 3-7 September 2007

Application of micro-satellite technologies in medical preventive maintenance of cardiovascular pathologies. IKI, Russia – T.K.Breus 6 UN/RF/ESA Workshop, Tarusa, Russia, 3-7 September 2007

Holter monitoring of cardiac rhythm and arterial pressure are showed the increase at patient with Ischemic Heart Disease during the beginning of the magnetic storm. 6 UN/RF/ESA Workshop, Tarusa, Russia, 3-7 September 2007

Session 2. Applications Improve Human Health 6 UN/RF/ESA Workshop, Tarusa, Russia, 3-7 September 2007

2. Space technology 6 UN/RF/ESA Workshop, Tarusa, Russia, 3-7 September 2007

From a number of the possibilities of space monitoring one should separately remark at the large role, which they can in the solution of this problem play an micro-satellite (MS). 10 UN/RF/ESA Workshop, Tarusa, Russia, 3-7 September 2007

With the contemporary level of the development of space technology and electronics appears the possibility of development and production the MS by the forces of scientific-research institutes. 11 UN/RF/ESA Workshop, Tarusa, Russia, 3-7 September 2007

Such MS, which carry several kilograms of contemporary scientific instruments, can effectively solve many tasks of space monitoring. 12 UN/RF/ESA Workshop, Tarusa, Russia, 3-7 September 2007

The development and the creation of the MS is conducted for the last 7 years in the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IKI RAN). In 2002 in orbit was delivered the scientifically- educational microsatellite "Kolibri-2000“ (total mass – 20.5 kg). http://www.energia.ru/english/energia/sci-education/ microsat/microsat-02.html 13 UN/RF/ESA Workshop, Tarusa, Russia, 3-7 September 2007

Russia – O.R.Grigoryan (Leader of the group), V.L.Petrov (Scientific Research Institute of Nuclear Physics of MSU), Prof. S.I.Klimov (Head of Laboratory) 12 UN/RF/ESA Workshop, Tarusa, Russia, 3-7 September 2007

At present in the IKI RAN is conducted the development of new micro-satellite "Chibis". 18 UN/RF/ESA Workshop, Tarusa, Russia, 3-7 September 2007

19 UN/RF/ESA Workshop, Tarusa, Russia, 3-7 September 2007

Micro-satellite platform "Chibis". IKI, Russia – V.G.Rodin (Deputy director), V.N.Angarov (Deputy director of SKB KP) Session 1. Micro-Satellite Platforms & Session 5. Micro-Satellite Systems 18 UN/RF/ESA Workshop, Tarusa, Russia, 3-7 September 2007

A base platform of the MS “Chibis” manufactured in the IKI RAN with the participation of the leading organizations of Russian Space Industry. 21 UN/RF/ESA Workshop, Tarusa, Russia, 3-7 September 2007

- Rocket and Space Corporation “Energia” named S.P.Korolev (Korolev); - Research Laboratory ROSTO, group PLIS (Kaluga); - NPO Mashinostroenie (Reutov); - "Polet"Corporation and Design Buro (Omsk); - TsNII Mashinostroenie (Korolev); - TsUP TsNII Mashinostroenie (Korolev); - AK Rigel (St. Peterburg); - RG NIITsPK named Yu.A.Gagarin (Star City). 22 UN/RF/ESA Workshop, Tarusa, Russia, 3-7 September 2007
