3 Crytur – One of the Czech Material Manufacturers Proprietary materials - single crystals - are processed to high value products by precision grinding and polishing, deposition of dielectric layers and clean room assembly. Major directions: scintillation materials and detectors, detection units for electron microscopy, laser rods and other laser components, crystal based precision optics including dielectric layers, and sapphire profiles.
4
4 Company Profile 55 employees Turnover 2,5 mil. EUR/year Average turnover growth 15% yearly in the last 10 years Production 20% in CZK, 55% in EUR, 25% in USD Niche applications requiring strong research. Research expenses ca 25% of the turnover. Value added about 70%.
5
5 Materials Grown Garnets YAG and LuAG, perovskites YAP, silicates LSO and YSO Dopants: Ce, Nd, Tm, V, Yb, Pr, Er, Cr
6
6 Detection Units for Electron Microscopy Single crystals for BSE detection in electron microscopy – Crytur has a majority of the word market Portfolio expansion from crystals to complete detection systems New clean-room facilities

7 Imaging Systems and Screens

10
10 Lasers Laser rods primarily for medical and defence industries Specialty materials – YAP, YAG, LuAG with Nd, Tm, V, Yb, Pr, Er, Cr, BaWO 4, etc. Bonding, angles
11
11 Coating High reflectivity mirrors, anti-reflection coatings, partial reflectivity mirrors, dichroic mirrors, beam splitters, graded reflectivity laser mirrors, optical filters, coated infrared optics, etc.
12
12 Research in Crytur Large extent of research (25% of turnover), due to short product life-time (ca 5 years). Czech Republic reasearch environment: 1) Research expenses are double tax-deductible, or 2) Governmental research subsidy (program TIP) Low participation of the Czech companies in the EU programs, even compared to the „new“ EU countries.
13
13 Crytur has a long contractual collaboration with ca 10 university groups. Collaboration example: „Nanoscintillation Materials“ – collaboration of 5 university groups for 4 years. Crytur is just end user, total budget 1,8 mil. EUR. Idea behind project: When scintillator particles are smaller than 1/10 of the emitted wavelength, standard optics laws do not apply. Research Collaboration
14
14 Crytur sales (in EUR) increased six-folds in the last 10 years – large investments necessary. Investments corresponding to 20% of the turnover in 2006-2010 – EU subsidy on investments ca 50%. Investment subsidy available through CzechInvest up to 2013. Condition: Production of newly developed product – available even for foreign companies Investment Activity
15
15 Summary Extent of material research corresponds to a strong industry share on the Czech GDP. It is supported with governmental and EU incentives. Crytur has a strong position in single crystal manufacturing, in particular in imaging with ionising particles.
