2. About the Country France is a country in Europe. The official name of France is the Republic of France. Just under 65 million people live in France. The capital city of France is called Paris and is home to Disneyland Paris. People from France speak French.

3. More About the Country The money that French people use is called Euros. The French Flag is Blue, White and Red. France is famous for cheese, wine, perfume and cars. France is also famous for the Tour de France which is the world's biggest sporting event that happens every year. Nearly 200 riders cover over 2,000 miles in just 23 days.

4. Food and Drink Some of the finest wine is made in France. The French are also famous for their wonderful food. People all over the world try to copy the delicious menus that were first created in France. Breakfast in France usually starts with a croissant and bread with jam and butter. Other meals are served in courses usually beginning with a soup, then the main course, followed by cheeses, and pastries for dessert.

5. More Food and Drink In France, they eat snails, frogs' legs and horse meat. Before eating a meal, it is polite to say Bon appétit. This means 'good appetite'. By saying 'Bon appétit!' you are wishing everybody “a good appetite” so that they will enjoy their meal. The most popular French bread is la baguette, this means little stick in French. It is a loaf 5 or 6 cm wide and up to a metre in length. There are over 350 kinds of cheese made in France.

6. Eiffel Tower The Eiffel Tower is in Paris and was built in 1889. It was used as the entrance to the World's Fair that year. It is an iron lattice tower named after Gustave Eiffel, the engineer whose company designed and built the Eiffel Tower The Eiffel Tower is 126 years old and took two years, two months and five days to build.

7. Eiffel Tower During cold weather the tower shrinks by about six inches. It is 324 meters tall (including antennas) and weighs ten thousand, one hundred tonnes It is possible to climb to the top, but there are one thousand six hundred and sixty five steps. Most people take the lift.

8. Why I want to go to France I picked France because it has the Eiffel tower which is gigantic and I would like to climb to the top of the Eiffel Tower to see the whole country. It is also sunny and warm which is much nicer than Scotland as it rains here most of the time. The food looks delicious and I would love to try it all except the horse meat, snails and frog legs but the cheeses and baguettes sound yummy!
